This is a group of pine woods that separate Giralang from the Barton Highway. There are several wooded areas separated by clearings containing power lines.
The woods are very accessible, with little scrub between the trees. There is a good network of trails that make it easy to explore the woods. The trails are used by BMX bikers and there are a lot of jumps and other obstacles, however these don't impede anyone hiking there.
There are many good opportunities for forest photos, especially when there is dappled light between the trees. The pine trees let in sufficient light for hand-held landscape photography.
One anomaly here is an acre of ground surrounded by a high barbed-wire fence. There seems to be nothing interesting in there apart from a patch of cacti.
There are no toilets here.
There doesn't seem to be any carparks dedicated to this wood, so you'll have to park on a nearby roadside, such as on Warrambool Crescent, Giralang.
From the turning circle on this road you need to head upwards towards the woods.
Grass in the surrounding parkland leading to the woods.
The park surrounding the woods is well-maintained. The woods are well-defined as shown in the picture where it is on the right of this path.
Good trails criss-cross the woods
Sparse ground-cover make it easy to leave the trails.
The trails are dotted by jumps and other obstacles for the bike riding community.
Good dappled light makes for interesting photography
The bike obstacles don't get in the way of hiking
The strange fenced-off area.
There are many trails heading into and out of the woods.
