It's a bit hard to describe this place. Although being an archive, from visitor's perspective it is more of a small museum of old recordings and video. There is a theatrette that, when I was there, showed videos of life in Australia in the 50's. On the other side there is a room of memorabilia of early Australian recording and TV, which maybe wouldn't mean much to someone from overseas.
Unfortunately, there was nothing that explained precisely what the Archive does. I had assumed it works on preservation, but they don't actually explain their function.
The gem of my visit was a movie/AV of cockatoos, displayed on large screens. It shows the birds in high resolution and slow motion. It was excellent. However, this doesn't seem to be a permanent feature. I visited June 2024.
There is a coffee shop inside, and a nice courtyard outside.
Toilets available.
Seems to be wheelchair-friendly.
Situated on the edge of the Aust National University in Acton.
3hr paid parking during the week, but free on weekends.
I didn't get the connection to sculptures of the early scientists.
