Mulligans Flat is a very large nature reserve in the Gungahlin area. It is surrounded by an electrified fence to keep non-native predators away from the native flora and fauna. You can only get in through one of the major gates on the perimeter. Pets aren't allowed.
There are gravel and dirt roads through the reserve, and nothing to stop you setting out going cross-country if you want. There are only hills if you go cross-country.
There are a lot of native birds and animals to photograph as well as light forest and grassland.
It's impractical to consider exploring the whole Reserve in one outing, you should perhaps plan where you want to go first and then select the appropriate entrance and tracks.
This is a place I visit regularly if I want to stretch my legs and look for new images to capture.
There are public toilets available at The Woolshed building that is about 15 min from the main entrance.
Mulligans Flat has multiple entrances gates, so its best to select the gate nearest to where you want to go.
The main gate is off Amy Ackman St, Forde, and has a carpark with free parking available.
There are multiple gates around the reserve, often just sitting in the grassland. These gates all have free parking available, but usually just nearby street parking.
If you want to visit the wetlands, it's best to use the Echidna Gate on the southern-most tip because it is close to on-street parking. This gate is closest to Pipistrelle St, Throsby.
Don't be put off by the electrified fence all around it.
