The Himalayan cedar forest is an area inside the National Arboretum. It is one of the oldest areas with large shady trees. There is minimal underbrush so you can easily go cross-country. The forest is on the side of a hill, so you will be going downhill to start. However, the trail is very good and bitumen for a lot of the way.
There are good views across Canberra from the top of the cedar forest.
There can be colourful mushrooms in May.
There are toilets adjoining the carpark. There are also several benches to rest on along the paths.
There is a lookout/decking with several BBQs halfway along the path leading downwards.
This forest is on the top of the hill to the right when you enter the Arboretum.
You take a road to the right at the top of the hill, and this road takes you to the free carpark at the turning circle/roundabout.
A lookout at the top of the trail leading down into the forest. This is looking across to the more immature Western side of the Arboretum.
