Perhaps Australia's pre-eminent flower show. Floriade is in Commonwealth Park on the banks of Lake Burley Griffin and runs from mid-September until mid-October each year.
Floriade can be very popular with families on weekends and public holidays, so if you want to minimise the risk of people in your photos I suggest you avoid peak times. Similarly, setting up a tripod on a busy day in a busy area could be problematical.
Like all outdoor flower shows, the number and quality of the flowers will peak towards the start of the show rather than at the end.
Floriade is free to enter, however you will usually have to pay to park during normal hours in the commercial or government carparks.
For about 4 nights during the exhibition, Floriade is open at night for an illuminated show, but you'll have to pay to enter for this.
Toilets are available throughout the event, and there are plenty of food stalls, ice cream vendors, and cafes available. There is a Ferris wheel that gives you a view of the flowers from above and stalls selling all things gardening.
Most people park in either Acton Park (off Commonwealth ave) or in the Constitution Ave carpark (on the other side of Parkes Way). If you go to park in Acton Park during a peak period there can be a slight bankup on Commonwealth Ave as cars turn off the main road.
Paid parking usually unless you go out of working hours and find some street parking.
Some people try to avoid the congestion and park in a carpark on the other side of the lake and walk over the Commonwealth Ave bridge.
