This was disappointing from a photography perspective. It is typical Canberra bushland with very little understory - so it's mainly just gum trees.
It's worth a walk if you want to stretch your legs.
There is only a bit of a view when you climb to the top of the ridge as the trees obscure most of the view. If you follow the ridge-line you will reach a fenced-off water reservoir that you can walk around, but I noticed in hindsight that I didn't bother taking any photos there so maybe nothing exciting to a Canberra person.
The reserve appears to be mainly for trail riders and there are cycling trails criss-crossing everywhere. There are some substantial fire trails that you can walk along if you want to stay off the bike-trails. This seems to be wise as most of the bikes don't seem to be equipped with bells to warn you of their approach.
There is a caravan park at the bottom of the hill that provides a water bottle refilling station on the outside of its fence. There's an open gate with an invitation to visit their coffee shop. This might be more attractive in Winter than it was on a 33 degree day when I last visited.
There are no toilets here, but maybe there are some in the caravan park.
I parked in a small parking area off Belconnen Way when heading towards Civic. There are no parking signs, so don't drive too fast or you'll miss it.
The official "I can see Black Mountain Tower" photo.
Climbing up to the top of the ridge does provide some views.
Keep your ears out for cyclists sneaking up behind you

Not much scrub
Some evidence of recovering from bushfire or protective burns.
