Queen Elizabeth Island is usually popular with tourists and picnic groups. It has excellent views of the lake. You can't actually go into/up the Carillion, but sometimes you can hear someone playing the bells.
It adjoins the major walking track around the lake, so there are usually a large number of people walking or cycling, especially on weekends and public holidays.
This location is good for scenic shots of the lake, and also for taking photos of people. Parking in this area allows you to walk up to Commonwealth Park and the Waterjet. This takes about 30 minutes walking slowly and taking photos.
The Carillion is illuminated at night, so it is good for evening shots as well.
There are toilets nearby and usually a coffee van.
The Carillion is on Queen Elizabeth II Island in Lake Burley Griffin. It is connected by a bridge.
There is plenty of free parking nearby, especially on weekdays.
